57 gold
medals dyed with international colours
‘Emozioni dal Mondo: Merlot e Cabernet
Insieme’: Israelian white-blue, French and
Croatian red-white-blue and Brasilian
carioca green…and of course Italian
white-red-green
The VI
International Contest ‘Emozioni dal Mondo:
Merlot e Cabernet Insieme’ judges awarded 57
gold medals.
In the charming atmosphere of Castello degli
Angeli in Carobbio degli Angeli (Bergamo) 59
judges, 35 living in foreign countries and
25 italians tasted and valued 202 wines
produced in 21 countries (Argentina,
Australia, Brasil, Chile, Croatia, France,
Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Mata, Perù,
Czech Republic, Serbia, Slovachia, Slovenia,
Spain, USA, South Africa, Switzerland,
Turkey).
57 wines reached the score established by
the contest rules as necessary for the gold
medal (85 to 92/100), 4 were awarded with
the silver medal (82 to 85/100), these were
all italian wines. But the really
international emotion was the world wide
representativity of the gold medals: 9 to
Israel, 4 to Croatia, 3 to France, 2 to
Turkey and one each to South Africa,
Argentina, Australia, USA, Serbia, Spain and
Brasil that ended with a medal its first
attendance to the Contest. The italian
samples salso gained important results: 32
were awarded with gold medals, 8 of these
were from Bergamo.
Looking at these data the impression is that
of a more international Contest concerning
the number and origin of wines and the
nationality of the judges (experts, wine
makers and wine journalists).
‘Following the Contest rules more than a
half of the judges has to be foreing and
also wine specialist. This is undoubtedly a
decision that recognize the importance of
specific education in the judges. We believe
in the importance, promotionally speaking,
of taking all these international guest to
Bergamo in order to visit our country and
region and to taste our wines’ said Sergio
Cantoni, chief director of Consorzio Tutela
Valcalepio, that organized ‘Emozioni dal
Mondo: Merlot e Cabernet Insieme’ under the
patronage of OIV, the International
Organization of Grape and Wine.
