ONCE AGAIN
‘EMOZIONI DAL MONDO: MERLOT E CABERNET
INSIEME’ CONFIRMED ITS INTERNATIONAL VALUE
Two Great
Gold Medals: one to Slovenia and one to
Mantova (Italy) 56 Gold Medals to 7
Countries around the world.
The seventh edition of International
Oenological Competition ‘Emozioni dal Mondo:
Merlot e Cabernet Insieme’ confirmed its
skills of internationality and
representativity.
Highly qualified judges from 18 Countries
(Peru, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Italy,
Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, France, Latvia,
Malta, Israel, Germany, Austria, Luxemburg,
Belgium, Hungary, Slovakia and Polony)
tasted 201 wines produced all around the
world (15 Countries joined the Competition:
Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Serbia,
Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovachia,
Slovenia, Israel, Malta, South Africa,
Chile, Peru and Turkey).
63 judges, divided into 7 commissions,
confirmed the fact that ‘Emozioni dal Mondo:
Merlot e Cabernet Insieme’ owns the major
relationship between the number of tasters
and the number of samples tasted.
The medium score of the 200 wines tasted is
a relevant and high one: 83/100.
‘This high result means that producers
carefully choose the wines to submit to
‘Emozioni dal Mondo: Merlot e Cabernet
Insieme’ said Mr Sergio Cantoni, director of
Consorzio Tutela Valcalepio, ‘83/100 is the
value of a Silver Medal following the OIV
(Organisation International de la Vigne et
du Vin) regulation’.
But the same OIV regulation provides that
only 30% of the total amount of samples
could gain a medal: that explains why 56
gold medals and 2 great gold medals (here
the score was of 92/100).
Another important prize assigned at
‘Emozioni dal Mondo: Merlot e Cabernet
Insieme’ is the Press Prize. It is a medal
based on the scores obtained through
journalist judges’ charts. The Press Prize
is awarded to the wine that per each country
taking part in the competition obtained the
maximum score (at least 80/100).
‘It is a pleasure to assign the Great Gold
Medal to Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Goriska
brda 2006 produced by Constantini Vina
(Slovenia) and to IGT Cabernet Alto Mincio
Val di Pietra 2008 produced by Tenuta
Maddalena in Mantova (Italy)’ said Enrico
Rota, President of Consorzio Tutela
Valcalepio. ‘These results show how the
commissions’ appreciation is not only
focused on strong and highly alcoholic
samples but also to less structured, fresher
and softer wines’.
More emotions were given also by the history
and the culture of Bergamo region.
The tastings and the gala dinner took place
in the wonderful frescoed rooms of Visconti
Palace in Brignano Gera d’Adda and the
guided tour showed to the judges the amazing
Pagazzano Castle and Caravaggio Sanctuary.
The oenological tour, on the other hand,
took place in Cantina Sociale Val San
Martino (Pontida) and Azienda Agricola
Sant’Egidio (Fontanella).
