“Emotions from the World: Merlot and Cabernet Together”
A great success’ data.
If we had to describe a contest only by reading its
data, then the fifth edition of “Emozioni dal Mondo:
Merlot e Cabernet insieme” would be considered as an
absolute success.
The total number of samples amount to 204. Of these only
198 were admitted to the competition. The wines came
from 16 countries, Italy, South Africa, Serbia, Croatia,
Argentina, Turkey, Slovakia, Malta, France, Israel,
Australia, Germany, Austria, Spain, Chile, Czech
Republic. The judges were 65, coming from 20 different
countries. They were divided into 7 commissions. The
organization awarded 59 medals: 1 Grand Gold Medal and
58 Gold Medals. Due to the Contest’s strict rules that
states that only 30% of the participants can be awarded
a medal, lots of wines that reached a value superior to
85/100 weren’t awarded with a medal.
Speaking more specifically about the winners we can
underline the fact that for the first time ever the
Grand Gold Medal was awarded to the work of Central
Italy’s wine producers. It was gained by Abruzzo with
Colli Aprutini IGT Merlot Marina Cvetic of the firm
Masciarelli sas.
To better underline the internationality of the
Competition 13 foreign countries were awarded with the
58 Gold Medals. Eight medals were won by Croatia, four
by Austria, three by Argentina and one by the island of
Malta, awarded for the first time in this Competition’s
history.
The Press Prize, given by the judges-journalists that
joined in the commissions for the tasting session,
selected wines produced in sixteen different countries.
This can be seen as another statement of the high
qualitative level of the participants.
